About The Mallard

The Mallard is a handcrafted glamping hut built from Welsh oak and red cedar, sitting proudly on a working farm in Brecon, Mid Wales. This 5-star rated shepherd's hut offers spectacular views across the Brecon Beacons National Park and makes the perfect romantic getaway. Who needs a standard hotel when you can wake up to rolling hills and fresh country air?

Set in a Dark Sky Reserve, this spot offers incredible stargazing opportunities – perfect for when you've had a few too many glasses of the owner's homemade gin (tasting sessions available, if you fancy getting sloshed in style). The peaceful location means zero noise disturbance, just the occasional sheep telling you to get out of the hot tub because you've been in there three hours.

The clever open-plan design features a king-size bed with views across rolling fields, a fold-away table with cushioned bench seating and a wood burner to keep things toasty. There's even a loft double bed accessed by ladder (not for small children or after too much gin). The bathroom includes a full-sized shower, WC and basin – all the mod cons you'd expect from luxury glamping.

Nearby attractions include Pen-Y-Fan (30 minutes drive) for hiking enthusiasts, Zip World (30 minutes) for adrenaline junkies, plus fishing opportunities right on the doorstep. Mountain bikes are available to hire from the farm (£25 full day/£15 half day) to explore the stunning national park trails.

The Mallard is perfect for couples seeking a quirky escape with a touch of luxury. The private hot tub, BBQ deck and dog-friendly policy make this the ideal base for exploring the Welsh countryside – or just lounging around pretending you're outdoorsy.

Sophie
We booked the Mallard for our anniversary getaway with the dogsand honestly, it was brilliant. The views from all angles were stunning, especially from the hot tub which overlooked the river - such a lovely setting! The bed nook was super comfyand the wood burner added a cosy touch. We appreciated the detailed info about local walks too. Our dogs had loads of space to explore and loved the river at the bottom of the field. We’ll definitely return, it was just perfect!
Emma
Really enjoyed our stay here! The place is in a lovely spot, peaceful with minimal light pollution, so perfect for stargazing. Definitely recommend it for a relaxing getaway.
Jessie
Honestly, this place totally exceeded our expectations! It’s well-equipped, so you really just need to bring clothes and some food. We loved how dog-friendly it was-our pup had so much space to roam around on the large field nearby while we relaxed in the cabin. The hosts were really thoughtful, making sure everything was spotless and leaving helpful booklets about local shops, restaurantsand activities. Inside, there’s plenty of roomand the beds are super comfy-definitely a highlight after long days out. They also supplied loads of BBQ gear and logs for the burner, which made evenings really cosy. Our dog’s bowls with stands were a nice touch, too. We’ve already booked to come back next month because we had such a great time. Would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway!
Oliver
If you value calm and serenity, this spot really hits the mark, honestly.

Alex
The place is bang in the middle of everything, which we lovedand the hot tub was a real highlight. A few comfy seats wouldn’t go amiss, though. Ohand there was a wasp nest near the drive, just so you know.
Emma
We had a lovely stay at the Mallard! The bed was super comfy and the hot tub was a real treat after a day out. The BBQ facilities came in handy too. Check-in was a breeze since everything was left open for us. Perfect for our 3-night tripand only half an hour from Pen-Y-Fan and Zip World. Great spot!
